Ahh so just about a year ago. They say that the first year is often the hardest. Mine actually wasn’t but only because it was spread out from August 2019 to actual awareness in May 2022. But I was constantly encouraged to only see my life with a positive attitude.

So, in June 2023, the real truth surfaced in repressed trauma that ripped my mind to shreds. Started crying forcefully until, fittingly, an autistic friend was able to calm me down. She lives in the UK. I’m from the US.

In April, I’ll be publishing a piece that explores the last three years where I’ve learned, by far, the most important things about what it means to be autistic. Entitled, “Autism Is of the Essence” after the cliche with time.

And I can confidently say that I know what it means to be autistic. Our thinking is divergent from everyone else. It’s at the heart of who we are as human beings. The very sparks of our humanity. Every thought that we process. Every idea that we create. Every beat of our heart that resonates.
