I haven’t been reading as much as just getting by each day. I was diagnosed autistic at age 37. I am now 41. I put up writing between December and January, but have stopped as my mental health is unsettled.
This article, while short, got my attention because I’ve perceived the very same thing even though I’m only a primary source (diagnosed autistic). Not a professional as Schuld is. I know I’m only pulling from lived experience, observations, interacting with other autistic people. Jackie is too.
Its important to keep objectivity in mind especially in relation to autism experience. We are different in and amongst ourselves as much as the science is from us. We may be wrong. But we are most important for researchers because ours is the data they need.
Too long autistic people have been in the shadows and misunderstood. The sooner we are utilized in research and development the sooner or resources and care improves.
Thank you, Ms. Schuld.
