After I was diagnosed, in 2019 at age 37, it took me nearly three years to figure out exactly how much autism influenced my life. During that time, publicly available research was inconsistent, confusing, and counterproductive. I also unwittingly fell victim to three incidents of discrimination specifically as a result of not understanding autism.
It took finding the NIMH Overview on autism to begin discovering the truth.
This inconsistent autism research is a serious problem that I’m advocating be resolved as soon as possible for the problems it represents to us.
