To be honest, I did have responsibility in how it happened. I did overshare and maybe trauma dumping. So, in discussing incidents like these I still feel it is important to recognize our part in the double empathy problem.
But I was completely unaware of how natural my autistic thinking is as well as my natural communication tendencies. Without that full awareness, I had no knowledge of nor control over my behavior. We are often criticized and shamed for that very issue. Self-control.
How can we be expected to moderate natural behavior that is so fundamental to how our brains function if we do not even know how much it influences our behavior in the first place? We can’t.
